I recently had the opportunity to speak with Dan Wotherspoon, host of Latter-day Faith podcast, about accountability. In mental health, accountability looks like taking accountability for our healing and taking responsibility to be the one that changes things in our own lives and in our families.

When we take responsibility for our own lives, we develop compassion and self-compassion. We come to understand why we and others have done things or why we struggle in certain areas, and are able to show grace and compassion. Being accountable also includes keeping our word to ourselves, which is a core part of integrity. When we break our word to ourselves we don't feel as good. Treating ourselves as equal in importance as anyone else in our lives and putting ourselves back in our circle of care is a part of accountability.
